Fireworks and rainy days

Phew.  It has been such a long time since I have blogged.  And I miss it.  I miss the routine of thinking and recording what has been happening in our life.  So, here goes.

Last week it was our fireworks night.  Our wonderful harbour city puts on a great fireworks display.  But, we went a bit more down home.  This year was really the first time the nieces really knew what was going on and arrived at our front door squealing with excitement about the upcoming fireworks. It was a cold night, so after the obligatory sparklers, we all sheltered inside while the blokes donned coats and went all manly and lit fireworks.  I am not going to argue with that.

The wonder on young faces of sparkling lights can’t be beat.

Today it rained. And rained. And then it rained some more.  For some time we have been planning to get fruit trees. And today was the day we committed to get out and buy them.  We had arranged to go to the plant nursery with my sister B, and her two daughters M (nearly 5) and I (nearly 3).  So, I was gutted when I woke up to pouring rain.  But a bit of rain wasn’t going to stop us! So, with gumboots, raincoats and umbrellas we ventured out and had a good time.
It was grey and wet.  But I am glad we stuck to our plans.  The girls had a great time jumping in puddles, running around and trying valiantly to push a laden trolley.  We got a plum and an apple tree.  Excellent.

The upside of a rainy morning out and about – the return home for a cup of tea and cheese of toast. Simple. Delicious. And just right.
