We have joined the Wellington Bake Club 2012. We put in a family team last year and have decided to revive the team. We get a weekly baking challenge for four weeks and have to use local ingredients. To be honest the hardest part is rounding up enough judges, we are all so keen to be the winner! Today’s challenge was savoury scones. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with this challenge. I have never made good scones. They generally turn out like rock cakes. My sister B (another contestant) is a dab hand at scones, and regularly whips up a batch for her hubby and daughters. A is a bit of gun with scones. So, I wasn’t really looking forward to this challenge.
Nevertheless, I spent some time researching recipes and the type of scone I would make. The options where narrowed down to two, with the winner being Caramalised Onion and Feta Pinwheel Scones. Here they are, and even if I do say so myself, they were pretty fine scones….
There was some pretty tough competition though….
In fourth place were Dad’s Rocket, Cheese and Onion delicious morsels.
In third, A’s cheese beauties.
And…..I came second!
And the winner….B, with her Cheese and Chive winners.
